The fellow participates in all aspects of the service and is given progressive responsibilities. Participation in conferences and teaching of pathology residents and cytotechnologists is required. Involvement in clinical research is also encouraged. Diagnostic and research facilities are available in molecular biology, immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry.
Devoted time to specimen preparation, laboratory management and quality issues is provided. Continued exposure to surgical pathology with annual accession of 65,000 cases is through tumor board participation and elective rotation.
The cytology laboratory processes 35,000 GYN Pap tests, 3,500 non-GYN specimens and 3,500 fine-needle aspirations.
