Epilepsy Center

Our comprehensive level IV epilepsy center offers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of seizure disorders.

At Baylor Scott & White Health, your patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, EEG technologists and specially trained nurses – all connected through an electronic medical record (EMR) to coordinate your patients’ care.

Services

Our treatment plans for your patients are customized based on age, medical history, type and stage of epilepsy and seizures as well as personal preferences. Treatment options may include:

  • Medication
  • Vagus nerve stimulation
  • Clinical trials (when appropriate)

Neuroimaging

  • High-resolution MRI
  • MR spectroscopy
  • Functional PET (positron emitted tomography)
  • Wada testing (intracarotid brevital injection)
  • Intraoperative cortical brain mapping

Surgery

  • Mesial emporal and extratemporal resection
  • Lesionectomy

We also have inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMU) at select locations that offer continuous video electroencephalography, ictal SPECT and intracranial electrode monitoring. Our EMU features a fully-computerized digital recording system that is monitored by EEG technicians and nurses with specialized training in epilepsy.

  • Generalized tonic clonic seizures (grand mal)
  • Absence (petit mal) seizures
  • Myoclonic seizures
  • Atonic seizures
  • Infantile spasms
  • Partial seizures
