Allergy and Immunology

We can help manage everything from common allergy symptoms to more specialized immune deficiency states.

Baylor Scott & White Health offers comprehensive allergy and immunology services, including the evaluation and management of respiratory, gastrointestinal and dermatological illnesses. 

Symptoms of non-HIV related recurrent infections or unusual presentations of symptom complexes may require immunologic evaluation.

Common Allergy Remedies

  • Allergic and other persistent or recurring nasal, ear and sinus conditions
  • Immune deficiency states (apart from HIV, which is treated by the infectious diseases department)
  • Immunoglobulin replacement therapy
  • Food allergy and intolerance
  • Stinging insect allergy
  • Urticaria and angioedema
  • Anaphylaxis and anaphylactic-like reactions
  • Chronic cough
  • Drug allergy, including antibiotics (testing is limited)

Diagnostic Allergy Testing

  • Skin testing for pollens, dust, mold and animal dander, as well as stinging insects
  • Food challenges
  • Blood allergy testing is available when skin testing is not appropriate
  • Drug challenges (limited)

Multidisciplinary Consultations

The allergists and immunologists here also provide cooperative evaluations with pulmonary medicine specialists for ENT-related conditions, like:

  • Immunologic lung diseases (hypersensitivity pneumonitis, allergic fungal sinusitis, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis)
  • Chronic rhino-sinusitis
  • Voice problems, including vocal cord dysfunction
  • Chronic or persistent coughing

Allergy Desensitization

  • Stinging insect allergy (honey bee, wasp, hornet, yellow jacket and fire ant)
  • Allergic asthma
  • Allergic rhinitis
  • Animal dander allergy, including cat and dog

We often can reassure your patients that they are not allergic and therefore are able to reintroduce foods that they may have been afraid to eat because of unfounded concerns.
