Resident Well-Being Retreat

McLane Wellness Chair Annual Well-Being Day

November 8 to November 9, 2018

Scott & White Medical Center - Temple • Temple, Texas

Guest Speaker

Bob Delaney

Mr. Delaney is a highly decorated New Jersey State Trooper and professional basketball referee in the NBA. During the mid-1970s, he worked as an undercover officer as part of an operation known as "Project Alpha" leading to the arrest of more than 100 members of the mob. The emotional roller coaster ride he went through as a result of that undercover job and the post-traumatic stress disorder that resulted from the sting operation are addressed in his books, Covert: My Years Infiltrating the Mob and Surviving the Shadows: A Journey of Hope into Post-Traumatic Stress.

He presents his unique message of hope and healing, including how speaking with someone who has gone through similar experiences allows us to validate our feelings, that not all wounds bleed and that some people go through experiences while others grow through experiences. Mr. Delaney will share his personal experiences and cumulative impacts of operational stress. He will address the reality that first responder jobs require a façade of strength when, in reality, you're still a human being.
