Adult Mock Code Resident Training
The simulation lab is open to medical staff training for new residents beginning their code call rotations. It involved a multidisciplinary approach to resuscitation training with emphasis on role responsibility.
Critical Event Management
This course is designed to utilize simulation for training and evaluation of emergency response teams to improve processes and increase patient safety in unexpected critical events. Participants will encounter "life-like”" emergency experiences with "hands-on" application of care. Emphasis is placed on improving multidisciplinary teamwork, communication, and self confidence in handling life threatening situations.
Hospital Based Simulation Training
This course offers simulation training for the instructor. Learn how to operate various simulators for effective training and how to facilitate simulation training to increase learners' skill development. Practice with desktop and wireless computers to enable manikins to perform tasks necessary for learning. This course also enables the instructor to develop activities in line with the necessary learning objectives. Learn to write objectives, stage learning activities, monitor activities and utilize debriefing skills for reflective learning.
How to Develop a Hospital Based Simulation Program
Learn how to build a simulation program within your organization. This course considers space, design, equipment, support, scheduling and staffing based on the audience or work groups utilizing the facility. Faculty advisors with years of experience in developing programs, site testing and curriculum development are available.
Neonatal Mock Codes
This activity involves in situ multidisciplinary training for staff in neonatal emergency resuscitation.
Obstetric Simulation
A high fidelity birthing simulator is utilized to train nurses and residents for competency in handling obstetric emergencies such as shoulder dystocia and post-partum hemorrhaging.
Pediatric Mock Code Resident Training
The simulation lab is open to heath care providers training for new pediatric residents beginning their code call rotations. It involved a multidisciplinary approach to resuscitation training with emphasis on role responsibility.
Utilization of Emergency Equipment with Simulation
Utilizing simulation mannequins for training with emergency equipment provides a safe environment to learn the necessary steps needed to provide care in emergencies. Working with defibrillators, pacing mechanisms and I/O drills in a safe learning environment provides the opportunity for practice without harm. The Clinical Simulation Educator is available for hands on approach to learning the uses of emergency resources.
Utilizing Debriefing Strategies with Simulation for Effective Learning
This course teaches strategies in reflective thinking to enhance the learning experience for quality improvement. Considered one of the most important steps in simulation activities, it allows the learner to analyze what they experienced, evaluate what they learned and to transfer their experiences to apply to new situations. Utilizing the high fidelity mannequins to reproduce events, near misses and low volume/high risk procedures, the observer can work with the participants to process the events for prevention/improvement measures.
Emergencies in Clinical Obstetrics
This physician driven course is designed to utilize simulation to teach strategies for patient safety in three defined OB emergency situations: Shoulder Dystocia, Post-Partum Hemorrhage and Breech Vaginal Delivery.
The objectives for the course are:
- To review protocols for common obstetric emergencies
- To demonstrate correct technique and performance of key responsibilities during simulated obstetric emergencies
- To practice teamwork and communication for simulated cases complicated by shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage and vaginal breech delivery
