Neurology Elective

The main goal of the rotation is to learn basic principles of neurology that are necessary to the non-neurologist, while demonstrating conscientious and responsible behaviors pertaining to patient care.

Baylor Scott & White Health offers a two-week and a four-week elective in internal medicine to fourth-year medical students. Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, serves as a clinical training and research campus for Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC) College of Medicine.

Applicants from LCME-accredited medical schools are given preference in filling positions.

We accept two students per rotation.

Curriculum

This is a two- or four-week elective in clinical neurology. It will consist of a mandatory two weeks of inpatient neurology care and an additional elective two weeks of outpatient neurology in various clinics (including child neurology).

The main goal of the rotation is to learn basic principles of neurology that are necessary to the non-neurologist, while demonstrating conscientious and responsible behaviors pertaining to patient care.

The elective will consist of two components:

  • Didactics: This is to provide the student with the essential tools that are needed by non-neurologists to address the care of their patients with neurologic complaints.
  • Traditional clinical experience:This will consist primarily of working with the attending physicians under direct supervision on the inpatient service
