Gynecology Oncology Elective

We have a reputation for preparing students for the medical field.

Baylor Scott & White Health offers this four-week elective in obstetrics and gynecology to fourth-year medical students. Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, serves as a clinical training and research campus for Texas A&M Health Science Center (HSC) College of Medicine

Applicants from LCME-accredited medical schools are given preference in filling positions.

We accept three students per rotation.

Curriculum

This rotation, available in selected months, emphasizes clinical care and patient contact, as well as fundamentals in gynecologic oncology surgery. Students participate in the evaluation and management of gynecologic oncology patients in a private office setting, in the outpatient clinic and in the hospital.

An upper-level resident and a faculty gynecologic oncologist supervise each student. Students participate in surgical procedures and perform morning and evening rounds. They also take part in an outpatient oncology clinic with an upper-level resident and perform weekend morning rounds with a resident and attending physician. Night call is optional.

We recommend reading any of the following texts:

  • Berek and Hacker, Practical Gynecologic Oncology
  • Morrow and Townsend, Synopsis of Gynecologic Oncology
  • Hoskins, Perez, and Young, Principles and Practice of Gynecologic Oncology
  • Disaia and Creasman, Clinical Gynecologic Oncology

How to Apply

We use the AAMC Visting Student Application Service (VSAS) to electronically accept applications, preferred electives and dates.

Applications are accepted beginning May 1.

Because of the volume of applications we receive, we do not offer or schedule an elective until the VSAS application is complete and all required additional documents are received.
