Vascular Interventional Radiology Fellowship

Our program boasts a 100 percent first-time board pass rate.

The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine - Scott & White Vascular Interventional Radiology Fellowship is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our one-year program provides exposure to the complete spectrum of interventional radiology at an outpatient facility that performs more than 14,000 procedures annually.

We accept one fellow per year.

Curriculum

The collaborative nature of the multispecialty system at Baylor Scott & White Health fosters working relationships with specialists from other departments. The working environment is cordial and fun, and a full crew of nurses and technologists complement the capabilities of the staff.

Fellows rotate on a daily basis through a variety of services including vascular intervention, vascular imaging, nonvascular intervention and interventional radiology outpatient clinic.

The interventional radiology division is involved in a number of clinical trials, and fellows are afforded the opportunity to participate in research at the local and national levels.

Fellows home call one night per week and one weekend a month (total of seven nights per month) Moonlighting opportunities are available.

A generous meeting stipend is offered for one national meeting. Fellows also attend the annual Society of Interventional Radiology Spring Practicum. In addition, a unique educational experience is offered through consultation services provided to the division from visiting, guest professors distinguished in the field of interventional radiology.

  • Diagnostic angiography including, thoracic, abdominal, peripheral and pulmonary arteries
  • Angioplasty and stenting of peripheral, renal, extra-cranial cerebral arteries
  • Comprehensive treatment of venous insufficiency/varicose veins
  • Transvascular embolization for the control of hemorrhage from the GI tract, lungs, tumors and trauma
  • Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE)
  • Transvascular embolization of vascular anomalies
  • Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (TIPS)
  • Dialysis access and maintenance procedures
  • Venous access
  • Image guided biopsy and fluid drainage
  • IVC filter placement
  • Gastrostomy insertion
  • Biliary drainage, dilatation and stenting
  • Vertebroplasty
  • Kyphoplasty
  • Interventional Oncology
    • DEB-TACE
    • Y-90
    • Cryoablation
    • Microwave ablation
    • RFA

How to Apply

We use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) to electronically accept fellowship applications, letters of recommendations, dean’s letters, transcripts and other credentials directly from your medical school.

Deadline for applications is December 15.

Application Requirements

Eligible applicants must have completed an approved residency in diagnostic radiology.

Applicants must also provide:

  • Curriculum vitae (CV)
  • Personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • USMLE board scores
  • American Board of Surgery In-training (ABSITE) exams
  • Notarized copy of ECFMG certificate
