Objectives

Designed to provide an open forum for addressing the challenges faced in providing efficient and effective mental health care and bridging the gap in communication between the mental health provider and primary care provider.

At the conclusion of this program, the participants should be able to:
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of bipolar disorders, distinguish between types of bipolar disorder (Type I, Type II), and initiate appropriate medical therapy
  • Identify ADHD in adult and adolescent populations and prescribe oral medication and distinguish which populations require additional referral
  • Recognize specific challenges in medical management of geriatric patients and provide targeted medical therapy to that population
  • Differentiate between types of medical treatment for depression and identify patients who would benefit from augmentation strategies and identify patients who would benefit from counseling and additional referral
  • Review steps for counseling and advising patients with chronic pain and summarize additional augmentation strategies to accompany medical therapy
  • Articulate the needs and values of their colleagues and create plans for future integration of primary care and mental health
