Objectives

Designed to provide updates in initiating appropriate treatment and management of heart failure patients.

Upon completion of this activity, participants should understand:
  • The basic physics of ultrasound imaging and its real and potential applications for the evaluation and management of cardiac disease
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the evaluation and management of symptoms which may or may not indicate underlying cardiac disease.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the evaluation and management of heart failure and where current research indicates that proven therapies are underutilized.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the use of heart failure teams composed of primary care and specialty physicians, APPs and nurses in the management of chronic heart failure.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the prevention of cardiovascular disease through lipid lowering therapy.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the management of chronic hypertension with emphasis on lifestyle, medical therapy and BP goals.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the management of stroke risk using device therapy (LAA occlude) as an alternative to anti-coagulation for patients at increased risk for bleeding.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the management of valvular heart disease using percutaneous prostheses and techniques as an alternative to traditional cardiac surgery and valve replacement.
  • current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the evaluation and management of atrial fibrillation including discussion of treatment options available to patients: rate control, rhythm control and ablation.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the evaluation and management of peripheral vascular disease.
  • Current best practice and evidence based guidelines for the evaluation and management of coronary artery disease.
  • The difference between errors, mistakes and malpractice and to review methods to reduce them.
  • Challenges to care for the poor and uninsured and review strategies and programs designed to address this need.
  • Common errors in evaluation and management of cardiovascular disease and how to avoid them.
