Designed for a broad audience of health care professionals/ volunteers who are involved in care of dying patients, in bereavement support and in clinical treatment of complicated grief or traumatic loss.

This educational conference features presentations providing up-to-date methods in counseling those dying and bereaved as well as information about self-care strategies for clinicians on the front lines who work every day with dying individuals and their families/loved ones.

Friday, Sept. 21, 2018

Friday's program consists of a series of plenary addresses by some of the leading experts in the field of grief therapy and bereavement support.

Tom Attig, PhD
Vancouver, British Columbia

Author Dr. Tom Attig will identify key elements in the grieving response as a process of relearning how to live in the world in the wake of death/loss

Christine Albert
Austin, Texas

Singer/songerwriter Christine Albert will share the story of her beside concerts for the dying and play some live music.

Wendy Lichtenthal, PhD
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
New York, New York

Licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Wendy Lichtenthal will present the results of her programmatic efforts to reach family members bereaved when a loved one dies of cancer.

Bill Hoy, DMin, FT
Baylor University
Waco, Texas

Clinical professor Dr. Bill Hoy will discuss how to enhance the therapeutic benefits of funeral/memorial services.

Louis Gamino, PhD
Baylor Scott & White Health
Temple, Texas

Program director Dr. Louis Gamino will use the vehicle of case study to teach a variety of therapeutic maneuvers helpful in working with dying persons and treating bereaved individuals.

Drs. Attig, Lichtenthal and Hoy will offer three-hour interactive workshops which provide more detailed, hands-on learning of specific concepts and techniques for attendees who wish to sharpen and develop their clinical reflexes/skills when caring for the dying and the bereaved.
